Algood Farmer’s Market Plans May Be Halted

Algood officials may consider placing the city’s farmer’s market project on hold after a second round of bids came back too high.

Sparta-based J.A. Sergio and Sons submitted the low bid of $185,745, more than double the amount budgeted for the project.

Luke Hill is an Algood City Council member.

“I think it boils down to either making people mad who want and have been waiting for it or you can risk making people mad by paying what appears to be about three times what we originally anticipated paying on this thing,”Hill said.

City Administrator Keith Morrison said he had budgeted between $60,000 and $70,000 for the farmer’s market in this fiscal year budget.

The Algood City Council will consider awarding the low bid when they meet Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m.

The city put the project out for bid a second time after receiving only one proposal the first time.
