Putnam County Building Boom Continues

September was a record breaking month for residential building in Putnam County.

Putnam County Executive Randy Porter said the county issued 34 permits for a total of $5.6 million in estimated construction cost. Of those 34 permits, 22 of them were for new single family residential houses.

The $5.6 million in construction costs beat the old record of $5 million in May of this year.

The county issued 98 permits for $14 million in estimated construction cost through the first three months of this fiscal year. 79 permits were issued during the same time period last fiscal year. Porter said the figures represent a 33-percent increase in the estimated construction cost and a 19-percent increase in the number of permits.

The numbers cover only the unincorporated areas of the county, not inside the cities of Algood, Baxter, Cookeville or Monterey.
