Clean Commission To Use Grant Funding For Stream Clean-Up Project

The Putnam County Clean Commission will use TDEC grant funding to help clean-up parts of Center Hill Lake.

Clean Commission Executive Coordinator Shannon Reese said the same grant has helped clean-up efforts at Window Cliffs State Natural Area on two different occasions.

“We chose Window Cliffs because it was so brand new and we had been helping to set up the trails,” Reese said. “I think it’s a better idea for us to help clean-up the rest of the streams and lakes in and around Putnam County.”

Reese said she had hoped to begin the work last week, but the rain postponed the project until this spring.

The Putnam County Clean Commission was one of 20 organizations across the state to receive Tennessee Aquatic Stream Clean-Up Grants from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.

Volunteers are being asked to help with the project. Anyone interested in volunteering can contact email cleancommission@gmail.com.
