Monterey Police arrested a man on multiple aggravated assault charges Thursday.
MPD Chief Bill Randolph said Jimmy Doc Gibson was charged after threatening his father-in-law with a firearm sometime last week.
“[Gibson] came out with a loaded gun and his father-in-law wrestled the gun away from him,” Randolph said. “Jimmy ran back in the house and barricaded himself inside… where we knew there to be a lot more guns inside, so it was kind of a stand-off situation.”
Randolph said authorities soon entered and cleared the house, but Gibson was not inside and remained in hiding until Thursday.
“At some point in time, Jimmy had ran out the back door into the woods and had been in hiding,” Randolph said. “We got a phone call yesterday morning that he was at home, so we went over there and we had already taken warrants out on him for the domestic situation that occurred last week. So we went over there and arrested him without incident.”
Randolph said approximately 10 handguns and other firearms were seized after the initial standoff as well as several boxes of ammunition.
Gibson faces five total charges of aggravated assault as well as one for violating bond conditions. He is being held at the Putnam County Jail on $47,000 bond.
