The National Weather Service in Nashville is surveying storm damage in DeKalb County to see if a tornado may have touched down in the area.
Meteorologist Brittney Whitehead said crews were sent out to the area Tuesday morning.
“We have a survey team out looking at some damage reports right now so we don’t have any official survey information as of this time,” Whitehead said, “but later on we’ll have more information about whether there was a confirmed touchdown in that area. We did have some damage reports in that area.”
DeKalb County EMA Director Charlie Parker said he received minor reports of damage mainly in the western part of the county.
“Primarily, just some tree limbs blown down [and] a little bit of damage from the winds but not very extensive, nothing like what was over in Cannon County,” Parker said. “We had more flooding issues in low-lying areas. We had water in the roadways in the downtown and also in Alexandria.”
Parker said Alexandria suffered the blunt of the heavy rains with several reports of minor flooding in the area.
“They did receive pretty extensive rainfall in that area so there were areas that may not always get water that got some yesterday,” Parker said. “It was primarily the western side of the county that received the most water damage.”
The National Weather Service reports an EF-0 touched down in Cannon County with wind speeds around 85 mph.
