Death Investigation Continues In Cookeville

A body found in the Cookeville Walmart parking lot Monday is believed to be that of a man recently reported missing.

The body of the unidentified man will undergo an autopsy at the Medical Examiner’s office in Nashville to determine a cause of death.

According to a press release from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy discovered the body in a vehicle while searching for another person in an unrelated case.

The release said the deputy observed a vehicle matching the description of a person reported missing to the Sheriff’s Office earlier on Monday. He approached the vehicle and discovered a deceased male inside.

Authorities have declined to identify the man until family can be notified.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and Cookeville Police Department are continuing to investigate the incident.
