A hearing to dismiss complaints in the Algood council election case will take place in Crossville following a Friday session at the Putnam County Justice Center.
The Crossville hearing will determine whether a First Amendment complaint and issue of indispensable parties will be dismissed in the case.
Chancellor Ronald Thurman made the decision after attorneys for Algood candidate Ruby Hawkins did not receive a statement from Putnam County Election Administrator, Debbie Steidl, regarding the case.
Thurman stated during Friday’s hearing that, based on a statement provided by Steidl, facts and responses presented before the court were beyond the scope of the briefing.
Hawkins’ attorneys, along with attorneys for councilman Justin Grant and representatives from the Putnam County Election Commission, met for 45 minutes in the court chambers to further discuss case details.
The hearing will take place at the Cumberland County Courthouse Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 9 a.m., in order to fit Thurman’s schedule and still be within the 50-day period for a decision.
