Putnam Schools Launch Anonymous Tip System

Putnam County schools began using a new anonymous tip line Monday.

Deputy Superintendent Corby King said the Safe Schools Alert system allows parents and students to report dangerous behaviors to school officials.

“They will be able to submit a tip either online, through a text, voicemail, or email,” King said. “They can send that to us anonymously for bullying, harassment, or anything that’s unsafe going on in school.”

Once a tip is submitted, it’s sent to appropriate school officials so they can investigate.

King said the school system began researching anonymous tip line programs after receiving input during the safety town hall meetings that took place in the spring.

“Other systems have this across the country and they are using it very effectively,” King said. “When we received those funds from the general assembly this was a priority that we wanted to put in place.”

The school system purchased the program with part of the $370,000 in school security funding allocated by the state earlier this year.
