A portion of Poplar Street in Monterey will be closed during work hours for the next couple of months.
Mayor Bill Wiggins said town officials chose to temporarily close the road because of construction for the Bank of Putnam County building on West Commercial Avenue.
“It’s a public safety issue. The construction company has equipment stored across Polar Street on that vacant property and they are crossing there constantly,” Wiggins said.
Poplar Street will be closed at the corner of West Commercial from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. each day.
Wiggins said residents on that road have multiple routes they can take to access commercial avenue.
