Residents from across the Upper Cumberland traveled to Fentress County Saturday morning for free health care provided by Remote Area Medical.
Crystal Moore, of Livingston, said she hadn’t been able afford a visit to the dentist for nearly three years before coming to the RAM clinic.
“It means a whole lot,” Moore said. “It’s something you can go to that helps the community for people with low income or doesn’t have a whole lot of money like me and a lot of other people… I think they need to do it more often, maybe more than just once a year.”
Rodger Howard, of Monterey, traveled to the clinic with his wife, who was also in need of dental care.”
“We don’t have money to get a tooth pulled. That’s got unreal,” Howard said. “She’s got some teeth that had broke off and she was needing to get them out bad. I’ve heard a lot of people talk about [the clinic], coming to it. They’re doing a good job.”
Alan Bryson, of Jamestown, said once he heard about RAM coming to the area, he decided to take advantage and get a checkup.
“A friend told me about this… so I decided to come,” Bryson said. “As far as I’ve been through it so far, it’s really nice and a lot of people have been kind.”
The RAM clinic provides a variety of services including dental, vision, and routine checkups. The clinic reopens Sunday at 6 a.m. at South Fentress Elementary School. The parking lot will open at midnight with tickets handed out at 3 a.m. Patients are served on a first-come, first-serve basis.
