Algood Middle School Students Charged With Making Threats

Putnam County authorities have charged two Algood Middle School students for allegedly making threats towards the school.

According to a Putnam County Sheriff’s Office press release, school resource officers received reports at 11:00 a.m. of a text message threat made against Algood Middle School.

The release said a student at Algood Middle allegedly threatened to harm people at the school and had sent text messages and pictures of a weapon to a friend who attends Prescott Middle School. The Prescott Middle School student immediately reported the threat to school administrators.

Officials said law enforcement searched the school and student’s belongings and found no weapons or immediate threats. Through the initial investigation process it was discovered that a second Algood Middle School student was involved in the same threat. A search of that student’s belongings found no weapon or threats, according to the release.

“This is a great example of our community working together to keep our schools safe,” Putnam County Sheriff Eddie Farris said. “Our School Resource Officers are in constant communication with school administrators and students.”

Both Algood Middle School students are charged with one count of making a terroristic threat, and they are being held at the Putnam County Juvenile Detention Center.
