Putnam Schools To Use Anonymous Tip Line

The Putnam County School System will soon begin using a new system for students and parents to report tips about bullying, harassment, and other dangerous behaviors.

Deputy Superintendent Corby King said the Safe Schools Alert program allows tips to be sent anonymously to one central location within the school system. Once a tip is submitted it will be sent to appropriate school officials so they can investigate.

“This is not something that we have currently, but we hope to have it up very soon, King said. “In the system as it is, students and parents have to come forward and talk with an administrator. This will give them the opportunity to submit a tip and we will be able to investigate and check into it.”

The school system purchased the program with part of the $370,000 in school security funding allocated by the state earlier this year. King said the school system began researching anonymous tip line programs after receiving input during the safety town hall meetings that took place last spring.

“Other systems have this across the county and they are using it very effectively,” King said. “When we received those funds from the general assembly this was a priority that we wanted to put in place.”

King said the school system is currently working with the company tech engineers to get the program launched within the next few weeks.
