Lightning Strike Takes Out Algood Middle, Elementary Power

Algood Middle and Elementary Schools are without power Thursday afternoon after a transformer was struck by lightning.

At approximately 2:15 p.m., the transformer near the Algood Middle School Football Field was knocked out, putting the two schools in darkness.

The lightning strike did not effect dismissal, however, as students were dismissed at normal times with standard procedures.

No one was injured by the lightning strike as emergency response and electrical crews responded to the scene to restore power.
