Overton County Woman Charged With TennCare Fraud

A woman from Livingston faces up to four years in prison after being arrested for TennCare fraud Wednesday.

The Overton County Sheriff’s Office has accused 55-year-old Kimberly L. Thrasher of selling a portion of prescription drugs she obtained through the state’s health insurance program.

According to a press release, Thrasher allegedly sold the drugs during an undercover police investigation.

The Office of Inspector General, which is separate from TennCare, began full operation in February 2005 and has investigated cases leading to more than $3 million being repaid to TennCare, with a total estimated cost avoidance of more than $163.6 million for TennCare.

To date, 3,024 people have been charged with TennCare fraud.
