Commission To Request State To Enact 1-Percent Restaurant Tax

The Cumberland County Commission approved on Monday night a resolution asking state lawmakers to enact a 1-percent restaurant privilege tax in the county.

If approved by the state next year, the money would help construct the proposed Cumberland County expo center.

According to county officials, the 45,000 square foot indoor expo center would cost an estimated $3.86 million to construct. The facility would be used for sporting events, concerts, graduations, and other events.

Before the tax could be enacted, the new county commission would have  to address the issue again and approve the Private Act or General Law by a 2/3 majority.
