Remains Of Korean War Veteran Escorted Through Cookeville

The remains of a Korean War soldier came through Cookeville and surrounding areas Wednesday.

Private First Class Joe Stanton Elmore’s remains were escorted by several law enforcement agencies from Nashville to Clinton County Kentucky.

Tennessee Highway Patrol motors picked up the escort at the 280 mile marker on Interstate 40 eastbound around 3:00 p.m. while Cookeville Police units blocked the Interstate 40 and Highway 111 intersection as Elmore’s remains headed north to the state line.

Elmore was killed in the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir and listed as missing in action in December 1950.

Earlier today a brief ceremony was held in Nashville honoring Elmore’s service and sacrifice.
