Jere Whitson Paving Project Set For Fall Break

The city of Cookeville conducted nearly $626,000 in paving work last month, but more work still needs to be completed.

Crews managed to pave all of the streets North of 12th Street to Jere Whitson Road.

Public Works Director Greg Brown said crews will finish paving Jere Whitson Road, Dixie, and Stargazer during Fall Break in October.

“When we started paving I didn’t think we could get all of that done before school started. I didn’t want to be paving in front of the school on Jere Whitson so we started with the other streets,” Brown said. “We’ve paid nearly all of our budget money so we are going to see if the council will give us a budget amendment to pave the rest of streets and be completely done with it.”

Brown said the three remaining roads will require some extra work before paving can be started.

“All we were doing on the other streets is just paving. Jere Whitson, Dixie, and Stargazer have some curbs, so we will have to mill some,” Brown said. “There is also a section on Jere Whitson that holds water on the sidewalk. We were going to try to do some extra milling on it.”
