Brother Nolan Cantrell Will Officiate With Interment To Follow In The Davis Cemetery. Mr. Looper Was Born On December 6, 1960, In Anderson, Indiana, To Larry And Roberta Smith Looper Of The Dry Hollow Community. Mr. Looper Passed Away On Friday, August 10, 2018, At His Home. Mr. Looper Was A Truck Driver, A Farmer And A Former Overton County School Bus Driver. He Was A 1979 Graduate Of Rickman High School. In Addition To His Parents, He Is Survived By His Wife, Linda Ford Looper Of The Dry Hollow Community; 2 Daughters And Sons-In-Law, Whitney And Chad Moody Of Cookeville, Olivia And Josiah Deason Of Cookeville; Stepdaughter, Charlene Ann Eatherly Of The Dry Hollow Community; 4 Grandchildren; And Brother, Tim Looper Of The Dry Hollow Community. Funeral Services for mabel Kate Graham Yoot, age 101 of Pleasant Hill, will be Tuesday August 14, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Thurman Funeral Home Interment to follow at Old Bon Air Cemetery, Officiating Bro. Roy Whited. Mrs. Graham passed away Friday, August 10, 2018 in Pleasant Hill. Mrs. Graham was born on Bon Air Mountain on July 6, 1917 to Bessie Brown and Robert Earl Yott, a coal miner. She was the fifth of eleven children. She attended school through the eighth grade at DeRossett Elementary. On January 11, 1936, a promised trip to the movies with Robert Lee Graham turned into a visit to the justice of the peace in Pleasant Hill, Tennessee. Mr. and Mrs. Graham were married that night, and they spent nearly sixty years as husband and wife. The Grahams lived in different coal mining camps across Tennessee, including Ravenscroft, Wilder, Fork Mountain, Gobey, and Crossville, but they eventually settled in DeRossett. The family attended DeRossett Church of Christ, a church that Mr. Graham helped to build. In 1976, Mrs. Graham retired from the Sparta shirt factory to be a full-time grandmother to her two granddaughters. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her siblings Robert Earl, Lillian Earline (Hutchings), David, Arthur Jake, William, John, Paul, Mary Frances (Vinson), and Lilla Seraphine Yott. She is survived by two sons, Richard LeRoy (Katherine) and David Donald (Joan) Graham both of Sparta, two granddaughters Patricia Ann (Ed) Bush of Antioch and Julie Elana (Joey) Brymer of Nashville, and one sister, Bobbie Ruth Wilson of Sparta. The family will receive friends Monday, August 13, 2018 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Thurman Funeral Home.
Funeral services for Dr. Sherwell Tolleson, age 83, of Cookeville, will be at 12 noon Tuesday August 14 at Cookeville First United Methodist Church. Dr. Martin Thielen and Rev. Rob Wheeler will officiate. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday August 15 at Douglas Cemetery in Douglas, Alabama, located at 9147 AL Highway 75, Douglas, AL, 35964. Sherwell passed away Monday morning August 13, 2018 at his home. He was born March 19, 1935 in Marshall County, Alabama, to the late Alvin and Lessie Avery Tolleson. Sherwell studied at Snead Junior College in Boaz, Alabama, and University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, for undergraduate work. He taught high school for three years in his home community of Douglas, Alabama. He then received his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and Counselor Education through a National Defense Education Act Fellowship in the early 60s at University of Alabama. He spent his 36 year career teaching and chairing the Educational Psychology department at Tennessee Technological University. He loved teaching and counseling and impacted many lives throughout his career. He was active in First United Methodist Church including training and leading Stephen Ministry leaders. He was an active member of the Cookeville mental health community including working with the foster care system and he and Barbara personally provided a home and support to many individuals throughout the years. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara McCreless Tolleson, who he married September 1st, 1957; daughter, Andrea (Ben) Edwards, son, Thomas Tolleson; grandchildren, Avery Edwards (Quinton) Westrich, Becca Edwards, Jon Edwards, Jackson (Whitney) Tolleson, Grace Tolleson, Klay Tolleson, and their mother, Michele Sawyer Tolleson; and great-grandchildren, Layla Westrich and Amelia Tolleson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Klawyn Seth Tolleson. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Funeral services for Mr. Freddie Joe Bennett, age 74 of Hillham, will be held Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at 2 PM from the chapel of the Hall Funeral Home of Livingston with burial to follow in the Campground Cemetery in Hilham. Mr. Bennett passed from this life on Saturday evening, August 11, 2018 at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Mr. Freddie Joe Bennett was born in Hilham, Overton Co. on January 28, 1944 to the late Millard Howard and Lula (Geesling) Bennett. He attended at the Aaron’s Chapel Church. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Survivors: 1 Daughter: Sherry Clinard and her husband Chris; 2 Granddaughters: Krista Cross and her husband Chris, Brittany Rush and her husband Nick; 2 Great Grandchildren: Sawyer Cross, Kaylee Cross. He was born March 30, 1942 in Jackson County, TN to the late Arthur and Nora Pharris Hall. Mr. Hall served in the US Navy. He was a member of Northeast Church of Christ. He was retired from Tennessee Tech University where he served as Assistant Food Director for 27 years. Ms. Buckner Was A Sales Associate With Phillips Shoe Store And Was A Factory Worker Working At Appalachian Corporation. She Was Baptist In Faith. She Was A 1972 Graduate Of Monterey High School. Funeral services for Mrs. Janet Louise Coffee Stafford, age 74, of Livingston will be held Wednesday, August 15, 2018, at 1 P.M. from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home in Livingston. Mrs. Stafford passed from this life on Monday morning surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 9, 1943, in Putnam County to the late Allard and Myrle Holman Winningham. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, tending to her flowers and garden, making trips to Gatlinburg, and visiting flea markets. Mrs. Janet Louise Coffee Stafford leaves behind her son Anthony Coffee and wife Margie Dawn of Livingston; daughter Anita Strong and husband Paul of Livingston; brother Pate Winningham and wife Faith of Florida; grandchildren Robbie Strong, Heather Bilbrey, Brittany Strong, Christy Smith, Miranda Key, Nathaniel Strong, Tesa Coffee, Colton Coffee, Christy Davis, Leigha Ray, and Shawn Strong; and 14 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Janet Louise Coffee Stafford was preceded in death by her husband Billy Joe Stafford. A service celebrating the life of Dawn Yvonne Hudson Gallaher, age 81 of Quebeck, will be held at Sparta First United Methodist Church, 1:00pm Thursday, August 16, 2018 with Rev. Greg Gallaher and Rev. Ken Wallace officiating. Dawn went to her heavenly home on August 13, 2018 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Dawn was born December 3, 1936 in Hartsville. A loving wife to Robert “Bob” W. Gallaher for 63 years, she has three children, Greg (Connie) Gallaher of Georgetown Kentucky, David Gallaher of Sparta, and Robin (Bill Toye) Gallaher of Cookeville. She dearly loved all her grandchildren who brought much joy to her life. Her six grandchildren include Jared (Laura) Gallaher, John (Laura) Gallaher, Lindsey (Robbie) Porter, Chris (Andrea Harris) Lynch, Whitney (Jamie Chapman) Gallaher, and Nikki (Steven Pogue) Christopher. Her six great-grandchildren include Lucy Porter, Lincoln Gallaher, Oliver Porter, Josie Porter, Ezra Gallaher, and Samuel Lynch (due in November). She also has a special niece, April Pope Mantha. She has five longtime, close friends, Mary Ann Huffines, Linda Witt, Linda Walker, Brenda Cardwell, and Janelle Clark. The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday from 4-8:00pm. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
