A provisional ballot has made the Algood city council race a tie.
Thursday night election results indicated that Justin grant had unofficially won the race by receiving 300 votes compared to Ruby Hawkins 299 votes.
Putnam County Election Administrator Debbie Steidle said Friday morning she discovered a provisional ballot casts for Hawkins.
“Either the city council will make the deciding vote and break the tie or they will have a run off,” Steidle said. “It is their choice to what they will do.”
Steidle said the council will make that decision after election results are certified on August 10th.
According to Steidle, a provisional ballot occurs when a voter doesn’t bring a photo ID but is verified as a registered voter within so many days of the election.
