Cookeville Council Approves Fountain Circle Rezoning

Cookeville City Council passed first reading of an ordinance Thursday rezoning a portion of Fountain Circle to be used for a wrecker service.

James Mills is the Planning Department Director.

“It was recommended unanimously by the planning commission and the planning department also supports the rezoning,” Mills said. “This property is adjacent to heavy manufacturing zoning already. To the north, it’s outside the city limits, which anybody can go there.”

Planning Department Director James Mills said very few of these services exist within the city.

“That’s one of the more requested items we get in the planning department is locations for wrecker services,” Mills said. “There’s very few of those legal locations within the city.”

According to the proposal, the lots included in the rezoning border a heavy manufacturing zone already, something Mills said played into the department’s decision.

Second reading approval of the ordinance will take place August 16th.
