The Highway 111 railroad crossing in White County will be repaired soon.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation has awarded a grant to the Tri-County Railroad Authority.
White County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson is Chairman of the authority.
“The crossing was getting rough and we were starting to have some damage to the vehicles,” Robinson said. “That is a major thoroughfare with the truck traffic coming in and out of there. This was just an obstacle in the path of making White County better.”
Robinson said the $200,000 project will involve repairs to a 120 foot crossing, including shoulders, four traffic lanes, and an acceleration lane.
The grant requires a 10-percent match, which will be paid by the Caney Fork and Western Railroad. White County and Sparta will not be funding the project.
“I’ve had several complaints about that area and after four years we’ve finally got some money released to take care of this project,” Robinson said.
Design, bidding, and construction is expected to take 5 months with competition by early 2019.
