Falls Creek Falls Nature Center Opening Delayed

The nature center at Fall Creek Falls State Park is expected to reopen in mid-to-late August after a delay in the renovation process.

Park Manager Jacob Young said contractors are beginning to pick up the pace and move to the next phase of the project.

“If you drive by it still looks rough but they’re starting to get the pathways laid and the sod going in,” Young said. “The next couple phases are going to happen really quickly.”

Young said unexpected delays in the project pushed renovations and the reopening months behind schedule.

“With any capital project that’s going on, there’s a lot of factors,” Young said. “Weather is one of them. Sometimes they encounter things they don’t know what they’re going to run in to. We also had some other work that needed to be done to the building that had to be contracted out. All those things factored in [and] it generally adds time to the completion date.”

Improvements to the park include new ADA-compliant platforms, restrooms, and improved paths around the nature center.

The earliest the center could reopen is August 1, but Young said anytime between August 15 and September 1 would be more likely.
