Cookeville Council to Consider Sidewalk Projects

Cookeville City Council will consider approving two sidewalk projects along Interstate Drive and South Jefferson Avenue.

Public Works Director Greg Brown said if approved, the projects could start as early as spring 2019.

“We’re working on the right-of-way plans right now,” Brown said. “We’re going to have to certify the right-of-way to TDOT. That’s where we’re getting the grant money from. And then once we get all that certified, we’ll continue on with the construction plans.”

The first of the two projects would include improving  and making repairs to the current sidewalk along Interstate Drive. The second includes building a completely new sidewalk along South Jefferson between the Interstate Drive and South Walnut Avenue intersections.

Brown said even once the project is approved, it could still take some time for any construction to take place.

“We don’t have a timetable yet. The right-of-way certification takes a little while,” Brown said. “[Once] we get all that determined and we get TDOT to approve that, then we’ll just move to the next phase. But I would expect it would be next spring probably when we finally get ready to bid it out.”

Council members will vote on the proposed project during this Thursday’s meeting at 5:30 p.m.
