Two Killed In DeKalb County Crash

The Tennessee Highway Patrol reports that two people died after a pickup truck crashed in DeKalb County this morning.

The crash happened on Old Mill Hill Road. The THP identified the deceased as 56-year-old Michael Murphy of Liberty and 50-year-old Angelia Burke of Crossville.

According to DeKalb County authorities, a motorcycle rider came upon Murphy lying in the roadway about a tenth of a mile away from the crash scene. Emergency responders tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate Murphy before he was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

A preliminary report suggests Murphy died from health conditions and not from the crash. An autopsy has been requested to determine a cause of death.

Investigators said they later found a Dodge Dakota down a steep embankment that had crashed into a tree. A crash report said Burke was ejected from the passenger side window and pinned between the tree and the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities believe Murphy was driving eastbound on Old Mill Hill Road when the vehicle left the right side of the roadway, traveled down the embankment, and struck the tree.
