Baxter Mayor: J. Cumby Project to be Finalized Soon

The J. Cumby Project in Baxter will likely be finalized within the near future.

That according to Baxter Mayor John Martin during Thursday’s Board of Aldermen and Mayor meeting.

“Our attorney, Shawn Fry, is working with Double Springs’ attorney now as far as an agreement with the water, so I feel like in a couple weeks everything will be finalized on the Cumby project,” Martin said.

Even if the project is finalized soon, Martin said it may be a few months until construction ramps up for the project.

“I think it’ll be the first of the year before they do any major things out there,” Martin said. “They might start and do preliminary work… but I don’t see any obstacles on that.”

Martin said during the meeting he is excited for the project to get under way and for new businesses to come to Baxter.

“It’s been an adventure,” Martin said. “I think the pay day is going to really be good for Baxter as far as revenue [goes]. A lot of good things that we’re hoping to go – as far as commercial – out there, that people in Baxter’s been waiting for for a long time.”

The Cumby Project – otherwise known as the Titan Project – is zoned as a residential and commercial area. The project would bring apartments and retail stores to the city along Highway 70 near the Highway 56 intersection.
