Sixth Congressional District Candidate John Rose (R) hosted a campaign event Monday to gather support from his hometown ahead of August’s primary election.
Rose said one of the biggest issues facing the United States is fixing the country’s financial deficit.
“I think that really challenges the country going forward,” Rose said. “We’ve got to get our spending under control at the national level, and I think we need to tear a page out of the Tennessee legislative playbook for how we do that. They balance their budget every year.”
According to Rose’s campaign website, he supports many of President Donald’s Trump’s policies, including building a border wall along the southern U.S. border.
Rose said immigration is a hot topic for voters in the Upper Cumberland region that needs to be taken care of by lawmakers in Washington.
“They see every day the impact of the federal government’s failure for decades to really enforce our immigration laws,” Rose said. “We’ve got to support the President’s efforts to get immigration under control.”
Rose said one of his biggest priorities is to help make broadband internet service available to all, especially within the sixth district.
“Increasingly, that’s kind of a barrier into business,” Rose said. “We want people to be able to get good jobs all across the rural areas and, in particular, the Upper Cumberland and the sixth district. We’ve got to make sure broadband access is available to them so they can do business.”
Rose is originally a Cookeville native and helps operate his family’s farm in DeKalb County. Rose’s campaign is the first time he has ever ran for public office.
