Monterey now has an official Friends of Meadow Creek Park group.
Monterey Alderman J.J. Reels will be in charge leading group efforts at the 300 plus acre park.
Alderman Nathan Walker made the motion to nominate Reels for the position. Walker said it was important to have some direction to the volunteer efforts.
“There needs to be a little bit of direction to it on the most basic of forms, just so people don’t go out there and say hey, we want to do this to it,” Walker said. “Something through the mayor’s office if we want to have a trail marking day or a trail cleanup day.”
The town of Monterey held a ribbon cutting last week for the new access road leading to Meadow Creek Park.
A number of grant opportunities will be sought to complete a comprehensive park plan, which will include a dock, kayak ramp, walking and biking trails, and other park amenities.
