Monterey continues to make progress on extending the town’s walking trail.
Cultural administrator Julie Bohannon said the engineering contract for the project was completed July 1 she hopes to have bids out by August 1.
Grant Writer Dawn Kupferer said a $45,700 grant from the State Department of Health will pay for the entire project. Monterey will not be required to provide a match for the grant.
“This is phase three of the rail trail in the town of Monterey and it will connect the whole town from city limits to city limits,” Kupferer said. “It’s a good section because it link people from a large residential area to the farmers market.”
Bohannon said Thursday she hopes to accept bids sometime in September and have construction underway shortly after that.
Once completed, the entire trail will be more than a mile, running from Burks Elementary School to Oak Street.
