Putnam County and the city of Cookeville honored the veterans honor guard during a Fourth of July celebration Wednesday.
Each member of the honor guard was presented a proclamation recognizing their services.
Randy Porter is County Executive of Putnam County.
“It doesn’t make any difference rain or shine, cold or hot, inclement weather, holidays…if there’s a veteran that has passed away they’re going to be at that funeral presenting the honors to the family,” Porter said. “Not only did they serve our country, but they are serving our community every day.”
“These guys, they go daily, Porter said. “They have funerals this afternoon that they have to be at.”
Porter said the Putnam County Veterans Honor Guard attends over 200 funerals each year to honor veterans from the community.
