Obituaries For Monday, June 18

Mrs. Linda D. Hatcher Smith, age 65, of Cookeville passed from this life on Saturday morning, June 16, 2018 from the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born in Davidson County on July 5, 1952 to the late James & Geneva Lawson Hatcher. Linda leaves her son, George Edward Smith of Owensboro, KY; brothers, Larry Hatcher & wife Pam of Franklin, and Jimmy Hatcher & wife Sherrhea of Fairview; 8 nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Mr. Sherwood MacRae, age 88 of Cookeville died Friday June 15 at 11:20 p.m. in Signature Health Care Center in Algood. Arrangements are incomplete.

Funeral services for Mr. James Golden Qualls, age 64, of Livingston will be conducted 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 19, 2018 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Bro. John Mabrey and Bro. Roger Bybee will officiate. Burial will be in the Walnut Grove Cemetery. Mr. Qualls passed from this life on Saturday morning, June 16, 2018 from the Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. James was born July 1, 1953 to the late Bill & Edith Savage Qualls, in Overton County. James worked in maintenance for many years. He was a member of the Church of Christ. James loved farming, hunting, fishing, and boating. He enjoyed being with his family especially family get togethers and reunions. James loved his wife more than life itself. Mr. Qualls leaves his loving wife, Susie Qualls of Livingston, TN; twin sister, Janis Mullins, sisters, Jean Smith and JoAnne Winningham, Carolyn Qualls and June Neal all of Livingston; brothers, Clyde Qualls of Livingston, and Donald Qualls of Nashville. Loved and respected by many nieces and nephews as well as many members of the community. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brothers, Jerrell Qualls and Johnny Wayne Qualls. The family will welcome friends on Monday evening, June 18, 2018 from 5 until 9 p.m. at Speck Funeral Home. Memorial Donations may be made to the family by contacting Speck Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Emagene Jackson, age 82 of Monterey, TN, will be held on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at 12:00Noon from the Chapel of Whitson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Smith Chapel Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held Monday Evening from 5:00-9:00PM and Tuesday from 10:00AM till time of the service at 12:00Noon. Tommy Derryberry will officiate. Mrs. Jackson passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at her residence. Emagene Jackson was born on May 3, 1936 in Morehead, KY to the late Earl Chalmer and Faye Opal (Roberts) Mynhier. She was a bookkeeper for her family business and attended the Monterey First Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband: Charles H. Jackson; 2 Brothers: Allie Vernon and Burl Ray Mynhier; 1 Sister: Judy Kay Holbrook.

Funeral services for Phyllis June Brewington, age 50, of Baxter will be held Tuesday, June 19th, 2018 at 11:00 am at Boma First Church of God with Pastors Tim Sharp and Archie Whitefield officiating. Interment will follow in Rodgers Cemetery on the Bryant Ridge. Phyllis Brewington passed away Friday, June 15, 2018, surrounded by her family after a brief battle with liver cancer. Phyllis June Brewington was born Wednesday, June 21, 1967 in Cookeville, Tennessee to Thomas Marshall Maynard and Ruby Jo Burgess. She resided in Baxter, TN where she attended Boma First Church of God and she was a member of the Praise Team. She worked at Upperman High School where she touched the lives of many young adults over the years. Phyllis loved kayaking, going to the lake, gardening, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family and close friends. She was always known to be willing and able to help with her family and community. Phyllis meet you with a smile and made everyone around her feel loved. She has become a mother to many young people and mentor to many more. She was preceded in death by: an uncle, Richard Burgess; great aunt Margaret Oaks; father-in-law, James Fred Brewington. She is survived by: her husband of thirty one years, James David Brewington; daughters and sons-in-law, and granddaughters: Brittney Mills, and her husband Corey, and their daughters, Anna and Ally Mills, Chelsey Stanton, and her husband Dustin, and their daughter, Evie Stanton; parents, Bud and Ruby Maynard; sisters, Linda Haugk, Brenda Burgess, and Tammy Maynard; father and mother in-law, Pete and Jessie Countryman; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 18, 2018, 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM and Tuesday, June 19, 2018, 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Boma First Church of God.

Funeral services for Ms. Carolyn Faye Hyatt, of Sparta, will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, in the chapel of Oak Lawn Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Brown officiating. Ms. Hyatt passed away on Thursday, June 14th at her residence. She was born on Saturday, May 1, 1948 in Sparta, the daughter of the late Bernice and Mary Kate Roberts Huff. She worked for many years at Waggoner in Sparta and loved spending time with her family and friends. Surviving family members include the following: son – Edwin Dwight Goff, Jr (Donna) of Sparta; daughter – Kimberly Mathis (Scotty) of Baxter; brother – Donald Huff (Sue) of Cookeville; sister – Barbara Carr (Roy) of Sparta; grandchildren – Dusty Mathis (Danika), Harley Mathis, Kacie Eller, Whitney Eller. In addition to her parents, Ms. Hyatt was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Bradley. Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service on Tuesday from 10am until 12 noon. Burial will follow in Robinson’s Chapel Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Ann Jordan, age 78, of Cookeville, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday June 20 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Celebrant Judy Duke will officiate. Interment will follow at the Phillips Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 – 8 p.m. and again Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of services. Betty passed away Saturday June 16, 2018 at her home.

Funeral services for Mr. Arel Henry Allen, 84, of Cookeville, will be held at 2 P.M. on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at Anderson – Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro. Burial will follow in the West Cemetery on Fairview Road in Putnam County. He passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2018, at NHC Health Care Center in Cookeville. He was born July 9, 1933, in Jackson County, to the late Joe Lee Allen and Della Dickerson Allen. He was a steel worker and lumberyard worker, and a member of the Fairview Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 Brothers: Gerald Allen and Bobby Allen. Survivors include 1 Son: Joseph Lee Allen of Cookeville; 1 Daughter: Barbara Pranger of Detroit, MI; 2 Grandchildren: Nichole and Donald; and 6 Sisters: Wilma Croy of CA, Rilda Allen Stacy of Cookeville, Janice Sheridan of Detroit, MI, Sandra Diemer of Chelsea, MI, Judy Rozar of Fayetteville, and Carolyn Nash of West Land, MI. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10 A.M. until time of services.

Memorial services for Mrs. Jodie Bowman, 64, of Gainesboro, will be held at 7 P.M. on Friday, June 22, 2018, at Anderson-Upper Cumberland Funera l Home. The family has chosen cremation. She passed away on Friday, June 15, 2018, at her residence in Gainesboro. She was born June 5, 1954, in Gainesboro, to the late Tom Joe Bowman and Susan Elizabeth Bowman. She was a retired book keeper. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 1 Daughter: Elizabeth Nichole “Nicki” Beach Chinoy. Survivors include her 2 Sons: Randy Beach and Andrew Grisham both of Gainesboro; and 2 Grandchildren: Kaya Brown of Interlachen, FL and Landon Grisham of Florida; and 3 Sisters: Kathy (David) Haynie of Tuscaloosa, AL, Peggy Bowman of Madison, AL, and Sandy (Donnie) Ragland of Gainesboro. The family will receive friends on Friday from 4 until time of the service.
