A Livingston minister has an optimistic outlook after voters elected to pass the city’s liquor referendum Wednesday.
Jonathan Ledbetter is the Minister of Livingston Church of Christ.
“I’m obviously not happy about it passing,” Ledbetter said. “But I do hope that only positive things come from it. People obviously wanted it in and they voted it in.”
Ledbetter said he addressed the issue with his congregation Sunday during his sermon.
“We looked at a lot of statistics of alcohol and alcohol abuse,” Ledbetter said. “I think we were all on the same page with being against it, but it seems like there was a lot more people that were for it.”
Livingston Mayor Curtis Hayes said the city council will try to make the referendum “as positive as possible.”
“This is all going to be brand new to us,” Hayes said. “It can always be designed [for] the parks, public safety, street paving, sidewalks, things of that nature.”
The referendum received 795 total votes during the municipal election, passing by a margin of 55 votes.
