Jamestown Man Arrested After Suspicious Suitcase Found at Walmart

Cookeville Police arrested a Jamestown man Tuesday for leaving a suitcase full of stolen items at the South Jefferson Avenue Walmart Monday night.

Police have charged 39-year-old Shane Benjamin Conatser with theft of property.

Police said Conatser had arrived at the store Monday night and placed the suitcase behind a propane tank cage before walking into the store.

Conatser left the store after the building evacuated when Walmart employees notified police of the suitcase. Police said Conatser returned to Walmart Tuesday and realized the suitcase was gone.

During the Cookeville Police Department’s investigation, detectives recovered stolen property from the suitcase that had been taken from the burglary of a Cookeville residence. The located stolen property resulted in Conatser’s arrest.
