Work to improve the Meadow Creek Park access road in Monterey continues to make progress.
“The grading looks fantastic out there,” Cultural Administrator Julie Bohannon said. “We are going to have a really nice road out there.”
Monterey’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen awarded a $55,655 bid to Elk Mountain Construction earlier this year to address drainage issued at the access road and to pave a parking area.
Working on the parking area will begin in the near future.
The City of Monterey has restricted access to Meadow Creek Park while the work is going on.
Mayor Bill Wiggins said the work was badly needed as repeated rain drainage damaged the integrity of the road.
“It’s just drainage out of the woods, up there off the mountains, that was washing away and eroding the existing road,” Wiggins said. “And creating some really horrible circumstances.”
Work should be completed by the end of the summer.
