Suspicious suitcases found at two Cookeville grocery stores Monday night did not contain explosive devices.
According to a Cookeville Police Department press release, officers began the investigation after Walmart employees notified police of a suspicious suitcase beside a propane tank cage.
During the Walmart investigation, the department also received notification of another piece of luggage sitting beside a propane tank cage at Kroger.
Authorities evacuated both stores until the suitcases were secured and deemed to not contain any explosive devices.
According to the release, a white male was seen exiting a white car and placing the suitcase beside the Walmart cage before leaving the area.
Cookeville Police officials said they do not believe the incidents are related as the luggage found at Kroger had been placed a few days prior to the notification. The investigation remains ongoing.
