Obituaries For Friday, June 1

Patricia A. Metz, 76, of Cookeville, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Bethesda Health Care Center. Patricia was born May 7, 1942 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and she was the daughter of the late Betty Lavera (Fouser) and Elmer Donald Yocum. Patricia was an avid reader that loved her books, birdwatching and sharing her life with several special companion dogs. More than anything though, she loved her grandsons. Keeping with her wishes, cremation was chosen with a private family service. The family requests prayers to lift her up to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Graveside services and interment for Mrs. Evelyn Bynum, 89 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, June 2nd at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Goodlettsville, TN. Mrs. Bynum’s family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Mrs. Bynum died Wednesday afternoon, May 30th at Bailey Manor in Cookeville.

Funeral services for Mr. Lynn L. Swanson, age 96, of Livingston will be held on Saturday, June 2nd, at 1 P.M. from the chapel at Speck Funeral Home. Bro. Don Maxson will officiate. Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery with Military Honors provided at graveside by the Overton County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Swanson passed from this life on Wednesday morning, May 30, 2018 from the Overton County Health & Rehab Center. He was born Boone County, Nebraska on June 7, 1921, to the late John Edwick and Beta Nordgren Swanson. He was a member of Monroe Christian Church. He served his country in the Army during World War II. He was a plumber and electrician who loved woodowrking, travelling, and socializing at the Monroe Community Center. He enjoyed farming and spending time with his loving family, children , grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Mr. Swanson leaves his daughters, Barbara Keisling of Monroe, Judy Dillon and husband Terry of Livingston, and Brenda Warren and husband Bill of Livingston; brother, Dolend Swanson of David City, Nebraska; sister, Ruth Pribnow of Albion, Nebaska; grandchildren, Jeff Keisling, Debbie Roddy, Jennifer McDonald, Chris Dillon, Pat Warren, and Jay Warren; 12 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Swanson was preceeded in death by his loving wife Clara Auberson Swanson; brothers Clarence Swanson, Chester Swanson, Arvid Swanson, Otto Swanson, Deland Swanson, Donald Swanson; and sisters, Helen Sivers, Myrtle Panek, Norma Conever, and Donna Swanson. The family will welcome friends at Speck Funeral Home on Friday, June 1st, from 5 – 8 P.M.

Funeral services for Mrs. Pearl D. Brown, 93, of Gainesboro, will be held at 2 P.M. on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Anderson – Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro. Burial will follow in the Rob Draper Memorial Cemetery in the Stone community of Jackson County. She passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Bethesda Health Care Center in Cookeville. She was born January 23, 1925, in Gainesboro, to the late George Freeman and Carrie Freeman. On May 17, 1942, she was married to the late Willard Brown. She was a garment factory worker and enjoyed keeping a spotless clean house. She was a member of the Richmond Chapel Church of Christ. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 1 Daughter: Deborah Kaye Clark; 1 Grandson; and 1 Sister: Ann Freeman. Survivors include 1 Son: Thomas (Geneva) Brown of Gainesboro; 1 Daughter: Linda (Bill) Mahaney of Livingston; 6 Grandchildren: Billy Mahaney, Teresa McCormick, Tommy Brown, Tony Brown, Branson Clark, and Matthew Mahaney; 9 Great Grandchildren; and 1 Great Great Grandchild. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5 P.M. – 9 P.M. and on Saturday from 10 A.M. until time of services.

Celebration of Life services for Ms. Teresa Anne Brazzell Ragland, age 67, of Cookeville, Tennessee will be conducted 2 p.m., Saturday, June 2, 2018 from the First Christian Church in Livingston. Rev. James Shenko will officiate. The family will welcome friends on Saturday from 12 until time of services at 2 p.m., at the First Christian Church. Ms. Teresa Anne Brazzell Ragland passed from this life on Friday afternoon, May 25, 2018, from the comfort of her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Nashville, Tennessee on November 12, 1950 to the late Harry McGinnis & Margaret Reeder Brazzell. Ms. Ragland graduated from Seaford High School in Seaford Delaware. She held a degree in Fine Arts from Middle Tennessee State University and a Masters in Education from Tennessee Tech University. She was an artist and published illustrator by profession and creative in all things. She was musical and appreciated musical talent in others. Ms. Ragland had a tender heart for all animals and gave a safe home to many. She was a loving and loved mother who cherished her home and garden.

A Funeral service for Evangeline Okain, 100 of Cookeville, will be at 3:00 PM on Sunday at the First United Methodist Church with the Bro. Rob Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow in Cookeville City Cemeter. Evangeline Okain, 100 of Cookeville, passed on Thursday, May 31, 2018. Born Thursday, February 14, 1918 in Granville, she was the daughter of the late Albert Huff and the late Dolly Hargis Huff. Surviving Daughter: Geneva Okain Burchett; Three Grandchildren: Penny Young, Kenny Burchett (Liz), Mark Burchett (Karen); Seven Great Grandchildren: Rachel, Brittany, Brandon, Bradly, Dylan, Chase and Breanna; Three Great Great Grandchildren: Cyianna, Ava, and Wesley. She is Preceded in death by her parents, her husband A B Okain, Grandson Brad Burchett, Son-in- Law Doc Burchett, one sister Thelma Miller, Two Brothers William and Otis Huff. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Sunday, June 3, 2018, at First United Methodist Church.

Funeral Services For Dorothy Ruth Looper, Age 98, Of Monterey, Will Be Conducted On Sunday, June 3, 2018, At 4:00 PM From The Chapel Of Goff Funeral Home. Rev. Denna Hornby Will Officiate With Interment To Follow In The Whittaker Cemetery. Mrs. Looper Was Born On May 5, 1920, In Monterey, To The Late John Leroy Haynes Pettit And Mary Louise Toney Pettit. Mrs. Looper Passed Away On Thursday, May 31, 2018, At Her Home. Mrs. Looper Was A Homemaker. She Was The Oldest Living Member Of Monterey United Methodist Church Where She Was A Former Sunday School Superintendent And Sunday School Teacher. She Was A Brownie Leader In Monterey And A Girl Scout Leader In Florence, Alabama. She Was A Volunteer At Standing Stone Care And Rehabilitation Center Where She Was Awarded With A Plaque For Over 20 Years Of Service. She Is Survived By, 2 Daughters, Pam Dunn Of Monterey, Marilyn Gay Lindsey Of Monterey; 1 Son And Daughter-In-Law, Johnny And Theresa Looper Of Monterey; 6 Grandchildren, John William (LeAnn) Looper Of Monterey, David (Olivia) Looper Of Smyrna, Chris (Ashley) Looper Of Cookeville, Melanie (Daniel) Koppenberg Of Murfreesboro, Jacob Lindsey Of Cookeville, Sara (Andrew) Bojie Of Bella Vista, AR; And 16 Great Grandchildren. In Addition To Her Parents, She Was Preceded In Death By Her Husband Of Over 60 Years, G.O. Looper; 2 Granddaughters, April Lindsey And Tara Dunn; 9 Brothers And Sisters. Serving As Honorary Pallbearers Will Be The Monterey Civitan Club. The Family Will Receive Friends At Goff Funeral Home On Sunday, June 3, 2018, From 2:00 PM Until Time Of Services At 4:00 PM.

A memorial service for Douglas Charles Stewart, 76 of Sparta, will be held at 7 pm on Monday, June 4, 2018 at Friendship United Methodist Church in Cookeville. Douglas passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Born Wednesday, May 13, 1942 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Elmer and Virginia Bull Stewart. He was a U.S. Navy Vietnam Veteran and a Mason. He enjoyed fishing and working at the Dance Academy. He loved every dancer there. He is survived by his wife, Judith Stewart of Sparta; son, Douglas Stewart Jr. (Terrie) of Glade Creek; daughter, Carrie Stewart Edmonds (Nathan) of Sparta; grandchildren, Emma Stewart, Grace Stewart, Tyler Stewart, Karlee Edmonds, and Ally Edmonds. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Ann. The family will welcome friends from 4-7pm at the church.

Funeral services for Mr. David Victor Hirsbrunner, age 70, of Sparta, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday June 5 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Mr. Hirsbrunner passed away Wednesday May 30, 2018 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 11 a.m. until service time. Graveside service and interment will be at 2 p.m. EST. Wednesday at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, KY.

A Celebration of Life of Nancy Clark Taliferro Owen, age 74, of Cookeville, and formerly of Sun City West, Arizona, will be at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, June 8th at Heritage Pointe Senior Living, 1030 S. Maple, Cookeville. Mrs. Owen passed away Wednesday morning, May 23, 2018, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Nancy was born in Davenport, Iowa on April 3, 1944, the only child of the late Paul Clark and the late Marjorie Hostetler Clark Taliferro. Nancy was 17 when adopted by the late W.R. Taliferro of Ft. Thomas, Kentucky. She graduated from Transylvania College in KY. She was married for 35 years to the late Dr. Edwin Owen, who preceded her in death in 2012. She is survived by many cousins in the Cookeville area: Kay & Mike Detwiler, Susan Detwiler Dalton & Larry Suggs, Michael Jr. & Shawn Detwiler, Mary Katherine Detwiler, Levi Detwiler, and Abigail Dalton all of Cookeville. Also cousins Karen & Robert Brown and Mike Brown of Walling, Karlyn & Jake Reel and Jacob Brown of Knoxville, Kelsey & Drew Hawkins of Jackson, TN, Daniel Watson of Blacksburg, VA and Carol & Tom Attig of Batavia, IL. She is also survived by her two step-sons, Andrew Owen and Kobi Conaway of San Francisco, CA, and step-son, John and Cindy Owen of Pennsylvania. Memorial services for Ed Edenfield, age 66, of Baxter, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday June 9 at Cookeville First Methodist Church. The family will receive friends Friday from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home and again Saturday from 1 p.m. until service time at the church. Mr. Edenfield passed away Thursday morning May 24, 2018 at his home.
