Cummins Falls State Park broke a record this past Memorial Day Weekend with an estimated 19,500 visitors over a three day period.
Jackson County Mayor Randy Heady said it’s big news for his county and the surrounding area.
“I just don’t know if everyone in the area knows what an economic impact that is for us,” Heady said. “It’s huge. We are just looking and striving at ways that we can capitalize on this tourism that’s coming in here because 90-percent of those visitors are from other places.”
Park Manager Ray Cutcher said the park uses a car counter to estimate the number of visitors. The previous record for visitors at the park was around 16,000, he said.
