Livingston Liquor Referendum Added to June 6 Ballot

A referendum allowing liquor stores in Livingston will be up for a vote on June 6.

Citizens for Progress Chairman Ralph Robbins created the original petition. He said passing the referendum would generate tax revenue to the city.

“Every town around us except for one has a package store,” Robbins said. “We’re losing a lot of tax revenue going out of town, it looks to me.”

Robbins said Livingston residents who buy alcohol have to go to neighboring towns in order to do so.

“[If] someone wants to get a bottle, they’re going to go to one of the other towns,” Robbins said. “I just don’t see why we wouldn’t be able to do it in Livingston, and collect tax revenue for our city.”

Robbins said 25% of tax revenue would go back to the city, 25% to local schools, and 50% to the State Department of Education.
