The Sutton Ole Time Music Hour will not change its format following former host Sam Stout’s retirement, according to host Jimmy Bilbrey.
Bilbrey, who had co-hosted the show with Stout for two years, said the show’s current format is “a proven formula.”
“Perople all over the United States rely on us for quality entertainment,” Bilbrey said. “We’re trying to do that as much as we can and it’s going pretty well.”
Bilbrey said he has “big shoes to fill” stepping into the host role of the show.
“I’ve had great training… and I’m excited, I’m really excited,” Bilbrey said. “It’s an end of an era for Sam since he did it for so long, and his name was synonymous with the position and the Sutton Ole Time Music Hour.”
Bilbrey said the show’s popularity has grown significantly in the two years since joining the program. So much so, he said acts are beginning to contact him to be on the show.
Bilbrey said he doesn’t have a specific favorite aspect of the show, he enjoys every part of the show from the food to the music itself.
“It’s multidimensional,” Bilbrey said. “I love to meet new people and just establish a network of friends. everybody knows everybody. It’s a small community in the music world.”
Sutton Ole Time Music Hour broadcasts on 47 radio stations around the world. The show’s next act is bluegrass and country group, Ida Claire, on Saturday, May 26.
