Van Buren County has plans to move into it’s new administrative building in the coming days.
County Mayor Greg Wilson said rain last week delayed the paving of the parking lot.
“It’s partially paved, but there is another layer that needs to go on top of that and it’s going to take a couple three days to do that,” Wilson said. “We can move now, but we would have to close down two or three days for that paving. We chose to just wait until that was finished so we wouldn’t have to move and then close.”
Wilson said the new 50,000 square foot building will house administrative offices, the jail, and justice center. There will be a coordinated effort to move those office into the building.
The county’s old administrative building was destroyed by a fire in 2015.
A grand opening for the new administrative building will be announced in the next few weeks.
