The Overton/Pickett Emergency Communications District Director has responded to a report questioning expenses by his district.
Chris Masiongale spoke out for the first time Thursday morning and said his district has corrected everything in the State Comptroller’s report.
The report released Tuesday morning found some $85,000 in questionable expenses by the district.
Masiongale said he’s fully cooperated with the state comptroller’s office during its two year investigation into the district.
The director did not talk about specific spending allegations, but said the center builds its own communications towers, “saving the citizens of both counties hundreds of thousands of dollars.”
The comptroller report found deficiencies existed with payments for tower climbs totaling $12,590.
Masiongale also said his dispatchers are “higher trained” than other dispatchers across the state.
The comptroller’s report could not determine whether the testing software, study aides, and other EMT training equipment were used by district employees or by students enrolled in the EMT program at TCAT.
Masiongale said his main concern remains with the life safety of the citizens of Pickett and Overton County.
