Jackson County School officials expressed excitement Tuesday night about the possibility of a future Satellite TCAT campus.
Director of Schools Joe Barlow said the project will be moving forward with plans to construct the building next to Jackson County High School.
“It would be the first higher ed campus that this county has ever had in the history of Jackson County,” Barlow said, “I’m pretty simple-minded and believe if you work it, it will grow. I think it has potential unreaching of anything we have seen in a while.”
School Board Chairman Mark Brown said it would be a great tool for the students, adults, and the county as a whole.
“They were asking me about it and I said we’re hopefully going to be able to train somebody for the skills or the job that you need for a factory that would maybe come to Jackson County.”
Brown said some discussion with local state lawmakers will need to take place in order to get some progression with the project.
“All of this works together as a system for the good of all of us that have grown up here and moved here,” brown said. “We have to focus on helping our neighbors and our county, so it’s a great tool and asset and we are working hard on trying to get this.”
