Whitaker Located In Putnam County Thursday

Deputies with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday captured an escape felon who fled from authorities last week.

Michael D. Whitaker taken into custody around 9:00 a.m. without incident. He’s charged with two counts reckless endangerment and one count of evading arrest. Bond set at $11,500.

Authorities located Whitaker outside a home on Spurlock Drive.

Last Thursday, Whitaker fled a routine traffic stop before crashing a vehicle in Baxter and fleeing the scene.

The incident forced multiple schools in the Baxter area to go on soft lockdown as law enforcement conducted a manhunt for Whitaker.

At the time Whitaker was on parole and wanted in White County for felony possession of schedule II drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, false police report, and forged auto title/plate. His bond in White County set at $25,000.

The U.S. Marshal Service assisted in the arrest of Whitaker.
