Baxter Schools On Soft Lockdown, Authorities Searching For Pursuit Suspect

Putnam County School officials have placed schools in baxter on soft lockdown as authorities search for a subject involved in a vehicle pursuit.

Baxter Police Chief Danny Holmes said the subject fled on foot after crashing his vehicle near 1st Avenue and Peach Street.

Holmes said the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office has initiated the pursuit, but called it off before the subject crashed.

Authorities are currently searching for the suspect in an area near the school.

An audio message from the school system said all staff and students are safe and will be kept inside out of an abundance of caution.
