Crossville officials will soon be voting on a measure to expand the number of city council members from 5 to 7.
Crossville Mayor James Mayberry said the city council has requested state lawmakers to allow the move to happen.
“In the past, we’ve had times where we ended up with a lot of 3-2 votes where two or three council members are kind of running the show and not being a true democracy,” Mayberry said. “We are hoping by having 7 members total that we would be able to make it a little more democratic.”
Mayberry said it would be an additional expense for the city due to the salary each council members make.
If lawmakers give their approval, the city council will have to pass the measure by a two-thirds vote.
