Vol State Campuses across the state…hosting Tennessee Reconnect info sessions Tuesday.
The tuition free program provides community college education for adults who do not have a degree.
Vol State Livingston Director Michael Powell said he encourages eligible adults to attend the event.
“If you look at our area, you will see that almost 20-percent of the population has some college, but not a degree,” Powell said. “It’s just really important for those folks that want to go back and pick up that class or two that they lack. It’s paid for, tuition is all paid for.”
Powell said getting that degree is a life-changing moment.
“I’ve been here 27-years and I couldn’t count the number of folks that come in for a particular life reason or a multitude of life reasons for discontinuing their college education,” Powell said. “To lack that one class or that last year, this is something that’s really good.”
More than 700 people have already applied to Volunteer State Community College to take advantage of the new Tennessee Reconnect Program.
Tuesday’s event will take place inside the lobby of the Livingston Vol State campus and Cookeville Higher Education campus. All info sessions will take place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Powell said adults will be welcomed with open arms.
“We will have a booth set up in the front lobby, so when you walk into the front door somebody is going to reach out and touch you right there,” he said. “If you have previous college and have transcripts, bring that with you. If you don’t have anything and have never been to college, that’s absolutely fine. The main thing to remember is to walk into the door and let somebody help you.”
Three primary steps come with taking part in TN Reconnect at Vol State: Applying to the college, filling out the Free Application for federal Student Aid, and applying for TN Reconnect.
