Obituaries For Tuesday, April 3

Douglas Winford, age 72 of Cookeville, died Tuesday morning, April 3rd at his residence. Funeral arrangements for Mr. Winford are incomplete.

Jo Ann Stewart, age 69, of Cookeville passed away Monday, April 2, 2018 at her home in Cookeville following a brief illness. No public services are planned.

Funeral services for Mr. Gerald C. “Cheetie” Anderson, age 86, of Livingston will be conducted 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, 2018 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Bro. Joel Chappell Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in the Overton County Memorial Gardens, with Military Honors provided by the Overton County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Anderson passed from this life on Sunday, April 1, 2018 from the Overton County Health & Rehab Center. He was born in Clay County on November 11, 1931 to the late Haston & Edris Stover Anderson. Cheetie was a residential painter for many years, and enjoyed to fish and bird hunt. Mr. Anderson is survived by his loving daughter, Betha Wilson & husband Carlos of Livingston; grandson, Matt Wilson & wife Felicia of Cookeville; great granddaughters, Ava & Macy Wilson; sister, Frances King of Huntsville, AL; half-brothers, Joe Anderson & Jacky Bilbrey; half-sister, Sharon Williams of Crossville. In addition to his parents, Cheetie was preceded in death by his infant brother & half-sister, Sherry Anderson. The family will welome friends on Tuesday evening from 5 until 8 p.m.

Funeral services for Etta Mae Jackson Deering, age 93 of Sparta, will be conducted 1:00pm Wednesday, April 4, 2018 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Okalona Cemetery in Rickman, Tennessee. Ms. Deering entered her heavenly home on a glorious Easter morning, April 1, 2018. Ms. Deering was born January 8, 1925 in the Okalona Community near Rickman, to the late Walter & Gertrude Leonard Jackson. She worked many years at the Sparta Shirt Factory and spent her life enjoying her flowers, gardening and helping others. Anyone who knew her, knew that she never met a stranger. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Ardell Deering; brothers Bedford & Fred Jackson and a sister Lennie Dee Strange. Ms. Etta Mae is survived by her loving neighbors, Tim, Billie Sue, Jenna & Lexi Johnson, whom she cared for as if they were her own children, who loved and cherished her deeply in return. She is also survived by some very dear and special friends, Betty Case, Kurt & Felecia Smith of Cookeville. Ms. Deering also leaves behind nieces Laura (Danny) Smith of Pikeville, Barbara Jackson of Crossville and nephew Jimmy (Kim) Jackson of Signal Mountain. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5-8:00pm at Hunter Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mr. Omer D. Goolsby, 86, of Whitleyville, will be held at 2 P.M. on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at Anderson – Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro. Burial will follow in the John L. Clark Memorial Cemetery in the Stone community of Jackson County. He passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2018, at his residence. He was born April 27, 1931, in Gainesboro, to the late Fowler Goolsby and Cynthia Goolsby. On January 21, 1955, he was married to Lucille Goolsby, who survives. He was a member of the North Springs Church of Christ, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He farmed, and owned Goolsby’s Service Station in North Springs. He also worked at the Pepsi Plant in Cookeville, and at the Livingston Chocolate Plant until he retired at 80 years old. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 Son: Richard “Ricky” Eugene Goolsby; 3 Brothers; and 1 Sister. Survivors include his Wife: Lucille Goolsby of Whitleyville ; 1 Son: Randy Goolsby of Whitleyville, TN; 2 Daughters: Regina Goolsby of Carthage, and Amanda (Larry) Dillard of Elmwood, TN; 5 Grandchildren: Jesse Presley, Kaleb Ashburn, Kobe Ashburn, Tina (Cavin) Gudat, and Kelsey Ashburn; 1 Great Grandson: Jackson Whittemore; 2 Brothers: Buddy (Minnie Lou) Goolsby of Gainesboro, and Aaron (Winell) Goolsby of Sparta; and 4 Sisters: Estelene (Ed) Nemore of Cookeville, Sue Bilbrey of VA, Ida Mae Carter of Whitleyville, and Jean Long of Gainesboro. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4 P.M. – 8 P.M., and Wednesday from 10 A.M. until time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to help with funeral expenses by contacting the funeral home.

Funeral services for Martha Stewart Flatt, age 68, of Cookeville will be held Thursday, April 5th, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Bethel Baptist Church, Dickson, Tennessee, with Pastor Randy Franklin officiating. Interment will follow in Dickson County Memorial Gardens, Dickson. Martha passed away Monday, April 2, 2018 at her home in Cookeville following extended illness. mShe was born Friday, March 17, 1950 in Dickson, Tennessee to Johnnie Stewart and the late Margaret Lucille Dunn Stewart. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved crafts and gardening. In addition to her mother, Martha was preceded in death by her daughter, Amy Shelton. She is survived by: her husband of thirty nine years, Donnie Flatt, father, Johnnie Stewart, Sr. of Dickson; two daughters, Libby (Maurice) Shoemake and Laura Bennett and her fiance’ Brent Byers, all of Cookeville; son, James (Kristie) Flatt of Arab, Alabama; two sisters, Sue (Doug) Edmisson and Kay (Randy) Franklin, all of Dickson; brother, Johnnie Stewart, Jr. of Dickson; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Presley Funeral Home, and Thursday, April 5, 2018, 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM at Bethel Baptist Church in Dickson.

Funeral Services for Geneva Belle Glasgow, 92 of Cookeville, will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, April 5, 2018 from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Geneva went home to Jesus on Sunday, April 1, 2018, at Signature Health Care of Putnam County in Algood. Geneva was born Wednesday, August 12, 1925 in Rickman and she was the daughter of the late Lonzie Fountain and Margaret Beulah (Langford) Lewis. Geneva was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and a devoted servant of Christ. Geneva is survived by: 5 Children: Robert and Diane Glasgow, Roger and Ruth Glasgow, Pat Marek, Ron Glasgow, Jeff and Wang-Ying Glasgow; 11 Grandchildren: Jennifer and Craig Wiita, Scott Glasgow, Kevin Glasgow, Amber Haney, John,Jr. and Joelle Marek, Matthew and Melissa Marek, Justin and Brandy Marek, Stephen Glasgow, Kelly Glasgow, Shane and Melanie Jaworski, and Chris and Rosemary Jaworski; 22 Great-Grandchildren; 4 Great-Great-Grandchildren; 2 Sisters: Ella Jean Hight, Marcia Shipley; Brother: Curtis Lewis; A host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Geneva was preceded in death by: Husband, Cleston “Scottie” or “Sid” Glasgow, Brother and Sister-In-Law, George and Clara Collier and Son-In-Law, John Marek, Sr. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Thursday, April 5, 2018, at Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mrs. A.V. Thomas, 87, of Gainesboro, will be held at 2 P.M. on Thursday, April 5, 2018, at Anderson – Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro. Burial will follow in the John Young Cemetery in the Shiloh community. She passed away on Monday, April 2, 2018, at her residence. She was born June 20, 1930, in Gainesboro, to the late Troy B. Hensley and Maggie Hensley. On October 8, 1949, in Angolan, IN, she was married to the late B.W. “Berry Tom” Thomas, who passed away April 30, 2012. She was a furniture factory worker, and a member of the Center Grove Church of Christ. She was known and loved as “Nannie Thomas” to all who knew her. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 2 Sons: Larry Thomas and Garry Thomas; 2 Grandsons: Garry J. Thomas, Jr. and Stevie Allen; 2 Brothers: Wilburn Hensley and James Hensley; and 4 Sisters: Annie B. Loftis, Velvie Denson, V.L. Hensley, and Dorothy Mayberry. Survivors include 1 Daughter: Debbie (Elmer) Allen of Gainesboro; 3 Grandchildren: Jerry (Tonya) Thomas, Missy Thomas, and Shawn (Julie) Thomas; 8 Great Grandchildren: Bobby Dale Thomas, Emma Brooke Thomas, Lisa Pryor, Latoya Pryor, Thomas Pryor, Kaleb Young, Kaitlyn Young, and Kristen Young; 3 Great Great Grandchildren; and 5 Sisters: Lona Ledsma of MI, Edith (Charles) Mitchell of Gainesboro, Betty Sue Mabrey of Gainesboro, Jean Loftis of Gainesboro, and Polly Petty of Gainesboro.
