A fire destroyed a home in Monterey Saturday night and left a family of seven homeless.
Monterey Fire Chief Kevin Peters said the blaze broke out around 10:15 p.m. at a two story home on 205 North Chestnut.
Peters said firefighters from the Monterey and Putnam County Fire Departments responded to the scene and found the back part of the house involved.
“We tried to make an interior attack, but couldn’t get to the seat of the fire because of the second story falling down in,” Peters said.
No injuries occurred and the cause believed to be electrical in nature.
The family not home at the time of the fire. They’re receiving help from the American Red Cross and currently staying with relatives.
The investigation remains ongoing at this time.
