Fans of classic WCTE programs of the past will enjoy Throwback Thursdays during the remainder of 2018.
In celebration of the station’s 40th Anniversary, WCTE will present classic local productions from the archives, some of which haven’t been seen in years.
“We’re just trying to leverage some of our old content that was a big hit back back in the day and showcase it to give people who maybe did not have a chance to view it,” Director of Content & Digital Media Brent Clark said.
Clark said the stations owns some seven thousand hours of content on tape, but only about 100 hours of that programming has been transferred to digital. In the digital age, older show must be converted from tape and film to air again.
“We’re hoping to get it digitized because we would be using that content,” Clark said.
Clark said the station currently working on a grant to get more of the footage transferred.
The 2004 special “Change Of Heart: Ryan Dalton and the Street Children of Cape Town” will be the first featured special. The show airs Thursday night at 7:00pm. The next two weeks, WCTE will air documentaries on Hippie Jack. A 1989 special “The Story of Rugby” airs April 26.
“The 40th Anniversary is a big milestone for the station,” Clark said. “We wanted to celebrate. It really is some great content from producers in the past that helped serve to build up the station.”
