Van Buren County can take the new step on a proposed industrial site south of Spencer thanks to a state grant.
“It’s a due diligence grant that was awarded to us that will allow us to do some soil testing and things of that nature,” Van Buren County Mayor Greg Wilson said.
The property sits about three miles south of the city limits on Highway 111. Van Buren County Commissioners purchased the 17-acre property two years ago for an industrial facility.
The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development awarded the $18,000 grant. The county must pay a five percent match.
Wilson said TDEC asked the county to approach the project in phases, beginning with this due diligence work. The next step would be getting the site pad ready.
“We’re excited that we’ve made that first step,” Wilson said.
