Monterey, Livingston Academy and Clay Country will keep the dream of a state basketball championship alive as all three won Monday night.
The three sectional winners advance to next week’s Boys State Championships in Murfreesboro. Pairings will be announced Tuesday afternoon.
The Monterey Wildcats continued a season to remember as the boys defeated Lead Academy in Monday’s sectional game 73-61. The Wildcats stand 30-6 as they advance to the 1-A bracket. Those games will be played Wednesday and Thursday, March 14th and 15th, at MTSU’s Murphy Center.
Clay County will join the Wildcats. The Bulldogs defeated Cascade 62-43 on the road Monday night to advance. The Bulldogs stand 21-12.
Livingston Academy also advanced to the state tournament. The Wildcats defeated Signal Mountain 71-62 last night. The 25-9 Wildcats have now won 11 of their last 12 games. The 2A Tournament will be played Thursday March 15th.
A total of five Upper Cumberland schools advance to the State Tournament in boys and girls basketball with the Pickett County Girls and the Upperman Girls playing this week.
